Leica Geovid 8×32 Rangefinding Binoculars Review

Leica Geovid Pro 8×32 Review – The Ultimate Compact Hunting Optic

When Leica announced the Geovid Pro 8×32, I was immediately interested. A compact, full-featured rangefinding binocular with Leica’s world-renowned glass and onboard Applied Ballistics (AB) Elite software? That’s a hard combo to beat, especially for hunters and long-range shooters looking for a lightweight, do-it-all optic. But what really intrigued me was the tracking feature.

I’ve spent the a few days putting these binoculars through their paces—testing glass quality, rangefinding performance, and overall usability in real hunting conditions. Here’s what I found.

First Impressions & Build Quality

Right out of the box, the Geovid Pro 8×32 felt like a true Leica—sleek, solid, and built to last. The magnesium housing is rugged yet lightweight, and the rubberized coating provides a secure grip, even in wet or cold conditions. At just 30.2 ounces, they’re significantly lighter than full-size rangefinding binos like the Geovid Pro 10×42, making them a great option for ounce-counters who don’t want to sacrifice performance.

Size-wise, they fit comfortably in my Marsupial bino harness, and I barely noticed them on long hikes. If you’re a backcountry hunter looking for high-end glass without the weight penalty, these are worth considering.

Optical Performance

Leica has long been known for its glass, and the Geovid Pro 8×32 delivers in spades. The SCHOTT HT glass provides excellent contrast, edge-to-edge sharpness, and true color rendition. Compared to my Swarovski EL 10x42s, I found the Geovid Pro 8×32 to be slightly warmer in color tone, but the clarity and detail were outstanding.

Low-light performance was better than expected for a 32mm objective. While they arent as good as the 10×42 in dusk and dawn conditions, they still provide usable detail well into last light. For most hunters, especially those in open country or moderate cover, the trade-off in size is well worth it.

Rangefinding & Ballistics

This is where the Geovid Pro 8×32 really shines. The onboard Class 1 laser ranges out to 2,500 yards in ideal conditions, and I found it to be consistently accurate out to 1,800+ yards on non-reflective targets. Even in rain and fog, the laser performed well—something cheaper rangefinders often struggle with.

But the real game-changer is the Applied Ballistics Elite integration. Once paired with the Leica Ballistics App, you get real-time ballistic solutions based on temperature, pressure, and shot angle. I tested it with my 6.5 CM and .300 RUM, and the solutions lined up perfectly with my verified DOPE.

If you’re a long-range hunter or precision shooter, this feature alone makes the Geovid Pro 8×32 worth the investment.

Field Use & Ergonomics

In real hunting scenarios, the Geovid Pro 8×32 proved to be quick and intuitive. The two-button interface makes ranging easy, even with gloves on. Scan mode is fast and responsive, allowing me to track moving game effortlessly.

The 8x magnification provides a stable, wide field of view, which is ideal for glassing in timber or open country. While some may prefer 10x, I found 8x to be a great balance of steadiness and field of view—especially when freehanding shots or tracking moving animals.

Battery life has been solid. After multiple full days of use, I haven’t needed to swap out the CR2 battery yet.

Pros:
✔ Exceptional Leica optics with sharp clarity
✔ Fast and accurate rangefinding up to 2,500 yards
✔ Compact and lightweight for all-day carry
✔ Rugged and weatherproof design

Cons:
✖ Premium price tag (but worth the investment)
✖ 32mm objective may not gather as much light as larger models in low-light conditions

✖ I don’t love the interface between the binos and Basemap
✖ In order for the pin drop from the binos to Basemap to be accurate you need to calibrate each time you use it. I just don’t have that kinda time….

Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5)
The Leica Geovid Pro 8×32 is a game-changer for those who want the best optics, rangefinding, and ballistic solutions in a compact package. Highly recommended for hunters, shooters, and outdoor professionals who demand top-tier performance.

Final Thoughts – Who Should Buy These?

The Leica Geovid Pro 8×32 is an absolute winner for hunters and shooters who want high-end glass, precise rangefinding, and built-in ballistic solutions in a compact package.

✅ Best For:
Backcountry hunters who prioritize weight savings

Hunters Who hunt “The Flats or Rollers” where once you leave your glassing spot everything looks the same

Long-range hunters & shooters who need accurate ballistic solutions
Timber & mountain hunters who benefit from a wide field of view

⚠️ Consider a Different Model If:
❌ You don’t need the Protrack feature
❌ You don’t require ballistics solutions (a standard rangefinder may be a more budget-friendly choice)
